Imperfections was filmed on Chicago's famed Jewelers' Row. The Handleman office is a working jeweler's business in the Mallers Building on Wabash, the center of Chicago's gem trade since 1912.
Cassidy's job in IMPERFECTIONS is real - diamond merchants hire young women as "schleppers" to move stones around Jewelers' Row to this day. This element of the story was inspired by a friend of David's who did this as a summer job in college.
Marilu & Ed
Ed Begley, Jr. and Marilu Henner worked together once before - on the "Pepper McMasters Singles Seminar" episode of the legendary show "PARTY DOWN".
David and Jonathan Singer are both lifelong Chicagoans. "It was important to us to show Chicago as it really is," said David. "The dirty trains and dive bars, the cracked sidewalks and mom-and-pop shops that give the city its character."
They emphasized out-of-the-way Chicago landmarks and institutions including The Mallers Building, The Hideout, Olive Park, The Jesse White Tumblers, The Old Town Aquarium Shop, and Lincoln Square Lanes, which sadly burned down one month after shooting ended.
Imperfections also features cameos from some notable Chicago actors, including Julia Sweeney (Pulp Fiction, SNL), David Pasquesi (Veep), and Katie Chang (The Bling Ring).
Jon Singer watches a pivotal scene unfold.
Cinematographer Drew Wehde gets the shot, Joe Campbell works the boom.
